Dark lipstick

Unless you have been living under a rock (joke), you have probably noticed the emergence of the 90s grunge movement in fashion. It's got to be one of my favourite era's in fashion in terms of risk taking and edge. A lot of women have been opting for darker lip colours such as browns and even black but my absolute favourite is definitely plum- id you browse through my blog you'll see some photos where I have it on. It's a dark maroon/purple and I absolutely love how alluring it is. It works even better because it's currently Winter in South Africa so the dark lips go with basically anything and works for any skin colour. It's about taking a risk, I guess.  Try it out! Here are a few pictures for inspiration..

Sam Lambert & Shaka Maidoh of Art Comes First

Stylish men who know how to wear a suit with a certain kind of quirkiness are what fashion is all about. I discovered their pictures on Tumblr and was curious to find out who they are. Shaka Maidoh & Sam Lambert the London-based creative duo behind Art Comes First (ACF). The duo based in London openly admit to venturing into art because they like beautiful things. As I wish to do some day, they dabble in a lot of creative things such as designing of clothes using art and musical ways of displaying their pieces and incorporated into their creative lifestyle is a mood board which sets their creativity in motion- this can be seen on their ACF tumblr.
Each of their designs and means of creating looks has some kind of backstory and history linked to their aim in creating their art.Their slogan "Aalchemy, Sator and Progression", a very powerful statement which encapsulates their vision for their creations. They do great things in designing clothes for the heterosexual man as well as the woman who does not necessarily fit the mould of being strictly feminine. They have a creative kinship that's definitely one of a kind. A good pair of eyes and immense talent.

An ode to Chuck(Taylor)

An ode to Chuck(Taylor)

Quick show of how to make a statement with casual Chuck Taylors and statement pieces. The orange bowler hat is definitely something that is soon to be on trend, bowler hats in general. The hat accompanied by the faux fur jacket are big eye-catchers and give the look that extra edge. I love how Chuck Taylors can instantly give a look a very street edge. As alternative to the knee-length tights, black stockings could be worn with the acid wash denim shorts.

Dark Nights x Dim Lights

Friday,14 June.
This was a relatively calm night out. We were basking in the dark in a very dimly-lit bar in our local student town Grahamstown and enjoying a well deserved from a very busy two weeks. When we aren't hustling for our degrees, we surround ourselves with good company. In staying true to my fashion loving ways, I wore a thrifted red turtle neck top, a gift from a friend, old school leather jacket; my mom's, high waisted jeans; also thrift store and finished the look off with a gold chain and hoop earrings. The pictures aren't typically editorial but here's just a little look into my life. Lovely people on a lovely night.

A bunch of very over-exposed pictures, right? Anyway, just thought I'd add some more personal touches to my blog. In order to not "incriminate" anyone on this public space, I should add that we are all just friends.

Pourqois?

For one moment I'd like to think there is a greater purpose in writing and creating and putting yourself out there, to be vulnerable, to be wrong. I'd like to imagine that it does not matter what truths I hold dear but that I have truths to share regardless of what they are. I wish that these words, that run through my veins, sometimes clogged up by my consciousness could open and reveal to me things that I both willingly and unwillingly want to know about myself. I do not want to become suffocated by these words that are unexpressed, I want to be emancipated from mental alienation. Rescued from social degradation. Map all these thoughts etched in my head, into something that will transcend these very confusing times centered around a shallowness from a constant hollowness and dark days and my wallflower ways. I would like to write what I like and I would like for it to matter to me more than anyone else whilst at the same time clearing pathways for conversation and connectedness and oneness with others.

House of Holland Resort 2014

Best of Resort 2014. I am not too big on excessively blogging over fashion week looks. I like to only pick that which is really interesting and daring. I love this collection from House Of Holland. The colour and print eludes to me particularly. There's something so great about taking risks and seeing them come out looking beyond amazing. Here are a few of my faves from this collection.

Clover Canyon Resort 2014

I recently did some perusing of some newer designers and found this uber cool designer. Designed and produced in Los Angeles, the Clover Canyon collection reflects the "eclectic, joyful spirit" of California through "vivid prints and streamlined silhouettes". I am all for Afrocentricity and boldness so I immediately fell in love with their collections. In particular, their Resort 2014 collection caught my eye. The mix of print and patterns as well as the lightness of the fabrics. The inspiration for the collection is Cuba for its tropical landscape and its reminiscence with African heritage. The prints represent the richness of the culture in Cuba, the festivals and dancers. There is just too much that is to be said for this collection but it works as a whole; the vividness of the graphics as well as the simple silhouettes.  And can we just talk about the model's hair and make-up? Too doe for. Now I can't wait to rock my afro again. This collection has inspired to bring the colour back into my Winter wardrobe. Hope you love it as much as I do. Here are my favourite picks from the Resort 2014 collection.

Everyday people brunch

Good food, good vibe.
A monthly brunch in New York. A collective of cool creatives wining, dining and sharing ideas. I long for an experience like this one. You can even spot some familiar faces in this video, would be lovely to mingle with these quirky minded  and oh so stylish people. I didn't know that such get togethers existed until very recently. South Africa needs to create "an everyday people brunch" of its own, where local food and style will be showcased. If anyone is willing to take this idea up, please let me know :)

Beautiful Androgyny

Agyness Deyn, born Laura Michelle Hollins. She is an English fashion model, actress and singer. Androgynous and oh so beautiful. She wears her short hair with the kind of feminine masculinity that is so alluring. I'm enticed.

What I'm wearing

Inspiration: Poetic Justice x Janet Jackson
Today I felt like trying something a little different from my usual attire. I channeled Janet Jackson's poetic justice look, with my own twist of course :) I dressed in all black and since it's exams I opted for a very comfortable alternative. I wore my favourite plum lipstick(which is trending right now), my all stars and did a throwback 90s style by wearing my plaid shirt around my waist. I also wore a snapback cap for the first time in years and I think I'd actually wear it again in the very near future. Hope I succeeded without looking like I was trying too hard. It's a plain look but I think it works for daytime purposes or on cool nights out, whether it be a listening session or a concert.
