Art is the articulation of existence.. Therefore the only thing more beautiful than art is existence

What I wear

HELLO :)
It has been a while since I've updated the blog, I have been quite caught up with varsity and just taking some me time. That will soon change though because I plan on creating more posts, ones centered around more interesting and relatable topics whilst still focusing on my love of fashion and music. I'm still trying to find my voice so it might take a while until the blog is in great condition so bear with me. After 4000 views I am positive that I;m not doing too bad, no? On my break, I've had quite a few shoots for the collaborative blog I am part of thequadrant4.blogspot.com so some posts and pictures I'll be taking from there but updates will be up soon.

COLLABORATION : Lindsay Purdon x Palesa
I had a fun spontaneous shoot with my very talented photographer friend Lindsay. It was not supposed to be something a little different, a little more creative and I had fun. I've become a little obsessed with the grunge scene and that is where I got a little bit of my inspiration. It was not supposed to be an "outfit" post but I have decided to make it one just to pay homage to clothes. It was an ordinary sunny day on campus and the pictures were taken in her backyard. Thanks to my little sister for buying my threads(the clothes) on her trip to Europe.  Hope you dig the pictures

Turning heads

I have mentioned before that I love headpieces, for me they can turn a really simple outfit into something that pops. They have made quite the comeback this yea taking on vivid colours and patterns and materials. For those of us brave enough to do experimenting:  The bigger the better! For the rest, smaller more understated versions work too. Spring has sprung and for me, this is the ideal time to start stocking up on them.

Solange does it again

As if one of my ultimate style icons(Solange) couldn't get any cooler, she went on and did just that. Her new video for Lovers In The Parking Lot from my favourite song off her EP "True" which was released late last year dropped recently. All I'm going to say is that I am blown away by her uniqueness and flare for creating beautiful things. From her clothes to her retro dance moves, the video is a breath of fresh air. Here are some snaps which can be found from her blog mydamnblog.com as well as the video itself. Enjoy :)

What I'm wearing

Polka dot lady
Hello :) So,  I didn't really get a chance to get good pictures of my whole attire. Only ones that came out great are the selfies, thanks to my mom's camera skills. Today was a day spent with my mother, ran a few errands including fabric shopping(I forgot to take my camera along-how average?) and popping into my favourite retail stores. I opted for a more sophisticated but still laid back look which is somewhat my little goodbye to winter weather. I'm wearing a 2 piece top and skirt suit from studio W at Woolworths and a wide brim hat from Cotton on. I changed my hair again, I have long havana twist braids which I'm hoping will last quite long considering how busy this term at varsity is going to be. This is somewhat of a vain post, excuse the selfies.

Two of The Greatest

Born Lucky by David Bailey

As if Cara Delevingne couldn't get any cooler, Vogue UK created a brilliant spread by pairing her with the oh so sauvé Pharrell Williams. I actually couldn't believe it when I heard about it and had to see these pictures for myself. The magazine features an article about the two modelling clothes of their own as well as from world famous fashion power houses such as Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton . Although the shoot is conceptually pretty simple, the pictures are beautiful and I love how they show off these artistic individuals' personalities. Here they are :)

Clothe Her

Had a photoshoot last week for "Clothe Her" By Charlie Rose. A second hand clothing endevor by a friend and university mate of mine Mathabo Tlali. I'm not going to say too much about it because I have done a post on her before but I will say that I really liked the clothes and the new vibe that was introduced by mixing vintage with streetwear. I also appreciate the fact that there is freedom when it comes to the styling and make up so all usb "models" did our own make up and styling using some pieces of our own. It was lots of fun and the pictures came out pretty good. Here are three singular shots of me. Check out the "Clothe Her" page on facebook!

Wanderlust

These pictures are not my own. I like them because they are beautiful and they capture my love of travel and hopefully someday soon, I will take as magical pictures as these when I venture off to a far away place. I love the almost imaginary cool damp feel of these photos, I love the concrete walls, I love the dim lights. I dream of travelling to places such as these with The Beatles soundtrack playing in the background.

Los Intocables

The right to childhood should be protected
Often in media we forget that as creators and producers of media and things that people are going to take notice of, we forget that there is more to the field than just showing off clothes and aesthetic beauty which has no deeper meaning. Not to take away from fashion and photography and music everything it means and represents. We tend to forget there is more to be said, the darker things that our art forms allow us to capture, things that people turn a blind eye to. I was moved by these images when I saw them for the first time, they need no caption for us to understand the depth of their meaning and they further emphasize the power that is lies within a picture. Sometimes it's good to ask ourselves whether we are really getting anything out of what we see and do in a way that affects us at our core level? and whether we should we be doing more as artistic individuals to express ourselves for a greater purpose.
