Dark lipstick

Unless you have been living under a rock (joke), you have probably noticed the emergence of the 90s grunge movement in fashion. It's got to be one of my favourite era's in fashion in terms of risk taking and edge. A lot of women have been opting for darker lip colours such as browns and even black but my absolute favourite is definitely plum- id you browse through my blog you'll see some photos where I have it on. It's a dark maroon/purple and I absolutely love how alluring it is. It works even better because it's currently Winter in South Africa so the dark lips go with basically anything and works for any skin colour. It's about taking a risk, I guess.  Try it out! Here are a few pictures for inspiration..

BOY LONDON

The story of BOY Founded by Stephane Raynor in 1976.

From Warhol, to Madonna, Punks through to New Romantics, club kids to fashionistas as well as big superstars such as Rihanna, have all worn BOY. Adopted as the uniform of choice for every youth movement that has mattered, the brand has outlived them all, the unmistakable spirit that borught BOY its success is still alive today
Before BOY, Stephane the owner, had been selling 50s clothing to influentials in fashion. This hows that he had already had a great flare for clothing and design. passion for the brand amongst those versed in its history kept the label alive throughout the nineties. In second hand stores and charity shops the world over, original BOY pieces became the most fetishised of finds. Then, in 2007 rumours began to circulate that the legendary label was returning.
Sure enough, Stephane’s latest venture, a store named SICK (located on Redchuch Street in the heart of East London), soon emerged and with it came the relaunch of BOY. The shop has seen international success now, even finding some of the items in local stores. It's amazing what a dream can make you do. For me, personally it's the boldness and chicness of the label, it doesn't scream too loud but it demands an aesthetic attention. It has an trademark underground feel and one can't help but feel like a rebel when you won one of their pieces.

Jourdan Dunn graces the June-July issue of Russh Magazine

One of my favourite models at the moment Jourdan Dunn graces the June-July issue of the British magazine "Russh". Fashion editor Gillian Wilkins selected looks from labels such as Calvin Klein, Jean Paul Gaultier, Ksubi and J.W. Anderson for the model and I must say I am in love. The feature is very throwback and doesn't "try too hard" if you know what I mean? She looks uber stylish but also very natural. I love how the shoot captures her youthful yet sophisticated nature; the black and white as well as the bold splashes of colour and print. There aren't a lot of shoots that have been done lately that capture women of colour in a non "tribal" setting and I appreciate the minimalist feel of the styling. This cover screams "I'm a beautiful black woman and I'm proud"! Here are my favourite pictures from the shoot. Although this magazine isn't found in South Africa, I just thought I'd share.

Alexa the quirky queen Chung

I have always loved Alexa Chung's sense of style, for as long as I can remember I would always google her on my mother's laptop and marvel at images of her out and about, always dressed so differently from what people were wearing at that time but she always looked amazing. I love that she always looks comfortable in what she wears and never compromises her body shape and height.  The way clothes look on her make it seem so effortlessly cool and natural. As much as people minimize fashion to only being something that is purely aesthetic, I feel as if she has proved that there is more to it than just the clothing. It's about being who you are and making the bold statement that is "I am who I am, so take me as I am, world". She is also undeniably beautiful and with her mixed English/ Chinese heritage it is no wonder she comes off as a cultured individual. Her current job is as an English television presenter, model and contributing editor at British Vogue. Basically, she is living my dream.
Here are a FEW of many amazing looks she has worn :)

This wonderful woman serves as a muse for many designers because of her distinctive personal style and she is frequently featured on "best dressed" lists. Vogue’s Anna Wintour has described Chung as "a phenomenon" and Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld has described her as "beautiful and clever...a modern girl".
